Udupi
Udupi is a small town surrounded by many smaller settlements. It is located on the west coast, in the state of Karnataka, north of Kerala.
Udupi is known for its statue of Krishna. We’ll explain it in more detail below.
To the east lies Manipal, a small university town.
To the west, wedged between the Arabian Sea and the small town of Udupi, the region thrives on agriculture and fishing.
Agriculture: coconut palms, banana trees, and rice paddies stretch as far as the eye can see…
Temple Shri Krishna Matha
The Story of the Krishna Statue
One day, a statue emerged from the sea onto the beach. The peasants retrieved the statue and displayed it in a temple.
Only the wealthy were allowed to enter the temple.
One day, a fisherman, who was a true devotee, looked at the statue through a small opening. At that moment, a miracle occurred: the statue pivoted towards the fisherman. And, since then, the statue has remained in the same position.
The temple’s unique feature is that the deity is worshipped through a silver window pierced with nine holes (Navagraha Kindi).
The temple also offers prasada at noon and is commonly called Anna Brahma because it feeds a large number of devotees.
The West would do well to take inspiration from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s letter. An example of integrity….
