Isha Yoga Center - Coimbatore
We arrived two days before the full moon.
It’s a sacred day called “Guru Purnima.”
This sacred day marks the first transmission of yogic sciences from Shiva—the Adiyogi, or first Yogi—to his first disciples, the Saptarishis, the seven famous sages. Thus, the Adiyogi became the Adi Guru, or first Guru, on that day.
Note: The seven sages actually represent the seven chakras.
For a week, we will be staying near the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore.
Opposite: Scooter ride past the center entrance.
The site includes:
– A pool of water energized by the presence of three linguams. This pool is intended for swimming and is reserved for men. Bathing is performed nude, wearing an orange loincloth.
– The domed room containing the famous Dhyanalinga. It is a favorite place for meditation.
– A sacred area with a huge statue of a cow painted black, a sacred tree, and a pool filled with lotuses.
No photography is allowed within the grounds.
However, photos are permitted of the famous bust of Shiva, located outside the grounds.
